Marine Tanguy and her Agency for the World's Best Artists

We Are Caring - Maid Employment Agency

Marine Tanguy is the founder of MTArt Agency, the first talent agency for visual artists worldwide. MTArt Agency was behind the largest public art painting in the world: the project of French street artist Saype in Paris supported by 30 companies including the Eiffel Tower and the Guardian Media Group. Artists represented by MTArt Agency enhance our homes, cities, screens, and advertising spaces with their art. They broadcast their inspiring messages and visuals for yes to lead a more visually inspiring life. Marine was awarded Forbes 2018 30 under 30 Europe: Art & Culture and UK entrepreneur of the year for the 2019 NatWest Everywoman Awards. She is a writer and keynote speaker on contemporary art and art investment. Her talks include two TEDx Talks on how to transform cities with art and how social media visuals affect our minds.

Describe MTArt in 3 words? How were you motivated to take the bold step of setting it up?

MTArt is the best talent agency in the world. We represent the most exciting artists and we love to create the most amazing projects with their art.

I set it up because it felt like it would be the next big idea in the art world.

To what extent does your business model encourage artists to stretch the boundaries of their creativity?

Extensively, Our clients are as ambitious as our artists so whether it is covering the entire Champs de Mars (the project of our artist Saype)

or enhancing a desert, our artists are pushed to be as creative as they can about their artistic vision.

The fresco "Beyond Walls" by Saype.

Can you tell me a little bit more about how to use art to transfer our public spaces?

I gave a TED talk on exactly this topic: I feel that our streets should be more inspiring, a strong visual narrative of our own times and a refuge when we want to feel happier. We are getting there : ).

What are your long-term plans for MTArt Agency’s private art collection – how do you plan to make it accessible to a wider audience?

Our collection is now very valuable as quite a few of our artists have risen to success since we first signed them. As we wait for the pricing to increase even more, we will be likely to lend these artworks to institutions.

Why did you decide to focus on artists rather than art itself?

You can be talented but if you don’t have the right personality, the ambition, the resilience and the vision, you won’t get there.

MTArt receives a large number of portfolios from the artists. If they follow a sustainable approach, I wonder if that helps them to be onboarded?

We are a B Corp so we can help them becoming more sustainable once they are onboarded.

Art is a powerful tool to raise awareness about global environmental issues and some of MTArt’s artists have been all over the news with their projects.

How much does the artists’ commitment to sustainability help to drive their success?

I feel that these are more our values, to care ethically is something that my team and artists feel strongly about. If well-articulated in artworks or projects, just like our artists Elisa Insua, David Aiu Servan Schreiber and Saype, then yes, it is great to think that they are successful AND sustainable.

If you could turn back time what would you do differently?

I always think of Cher when I hear this phrase : ). Nothing, as everything is now part of the story and my life is amazing. I am more someone who learns to progress and improve the future; I leave the past to be the past.

What advice would you give to a young artist?

Think about how you can truly inspire someone.

If there is such a thing (!), describe what your typical day looks like?

My days are different everyday; that’s why I love my job. But they are always filled with clients, artists and discussions with partners.
